James Ackerman has practiced law in Sangamon County since 1986. He established Ackerman Law Office in 1989. He served as an assistant state's attorney and a public defender. His family has served the Springfield legal community since 1949, when his father began practicing law. J. Waldo Ackerman served as Sangamon County State's Attorney, Special Deputy Attorney General, and city attorney for the City of Springfield. He was then appointed to the circuit court bench until the president asked him to serve as a United States District Judge. He served as chief judge until he died.	James Ackerman currently serves as director for the Sangamon County Bar Association, as board member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and on the Public Relations committee for the Illinois State Bar Association. He currently teaches seminars in trial advocacy and workers' compensation. Mr. Ackerman is a renowned litigator. He obtained the record verdict in Christian County as a result of his diligent representation. He represented an individual in the largest trial in federal disctrict court in the Central District of Illinois.
